Mithila Portrait was born to celebrate and preserve one of India's oldest folk-art traditions. Madhubani (or Mithila) art, with its bold black lines, natural dyes, and intricate motifs of fish, peacocks, lotuses, and the sun, is over 2,500 years old. We believe every Indian family deserves a Madhubani portrait to cherish their heritage.
Madhubani art has been painted by the women of Bihar's Mithila region for centuries — on mud walls, on handmade paper, and on sari borders. We started Mithila Portrait to make this beautiful tradition accessible to families everywhere, without replacing or diminishing the work of real Mithila artists.
Our model is carefully tuned to replicate the Mithila style — the characteristic line work, the earthy natural color palette, the lotus and fish motifs, the tribal borders. We consulted with folk-art enthusiasts to ensure our output honors the tradition.
